When planning a trip to sunny Florida, one generally thinks about cities like Orlando, Tampa, or Panama City, but for a relaxing getaway that is just far enough off the beaten path, consider visiting Palm Beach. In a town with a year-round population of just over 10,000 residents, a vacation to one of the many Palm Beach luxury hotels will be just what the doctor ordered. You can spend time in southern Florida without dealing with the crowded beaches of Miami or Ft. Lauderdale.

Established as a resort by Standard Oil founder, Henry Morrison Flagler, this city is located on Florida's Atlantic coast. Palm Beach is Florida's easternmost city and is home to several miles of beautiful coastline and pristine beaches. You'll get off the plane at Palm Beach International Airport and be greeted with a true, tropical climate. Temperatures here very rarely dip below 64 degrees Fahrenheit, making for extremely comfortable temperatures all year round.

Palm Beach is traditionally a retirement community with over half of the area's permanent residents older than 65 years of age. The city's warm climate and relaxed lifestyle make it the perfect location for folks who have worked hard for their entire lives to settle down in for their twilight years. The city is not just a place where people retire to, however and there is plenty for visitors to do while vacationing here.

Perhaps the most attended attraction in Palm Beach is the Henry Flagler Museum. Here, you can check out the home of the city's proudest and first son, Henry Flagler. His 73-room mansion has been maintained and still contains many of the home's original furnishings, as well as an impressive art collection. Guests rave about this attraction and tout the museum as an example of old world wealth and Florida's history.

Ask the concierge at any of the Palm Beach luxury hotels about the best place to take a walk and take in some beautiful scenery and they will certainly point you in the direction of the Lake Trail. You can rent bicycles and get a map from a guide to get a behind the scenes look at the area's luxury homes and the scenic areas of the Palm Beach island.

Those who have the means to stay at one of the Palm Beach luxury hotels may want to consider a trip to the Donald Trump owned Mar-a-Lago spa. This spa is feted as an "exclusive spa for the super-rich", but isn't quite as expensive as it sounds. However, guests here will be treated to a celebrity-like spa experience where they can be pampered by top of the line masseuses and work out in one of the best gyms in the country. The grounds are perfectly manicured and the building is impeccably decorated making Mar-a-Lago a must-see experience for any traveler to Palm Beach.

If you have a few extra dollars and a couple of hours to kill, make your way to Palm Beach's famous Worth Avenue. This area has been compared to Beverly Hills' Rodeo Drive for its swanky dining and top-of-the-line shopping. Between high-end boutiques and luxury jewelry shops, your most expensive tastes can be sated. Even if you are on a tighter budget than Palm Springs' "old-money" folks, however, there is still something for you in this area of town. If you spend a little time looking in the nooks and crannies of Worth Avenue, you will surely find some opportunities to treat yourself to some of the finer things in life without breaking the bank. Located within walking distance of the beach, Worth Avenue is also an interesting place to people-watch.

With so much to do in this resort town, you may forget that you are staying at one of the Palm Beach luxury hotels. While you should certainly be encouraged to take in everything that the area has to offer, take some time to make the most of your time in the hotel. All of this city's best hotels will have amenities like a pool area, spa, room service and fine dining options. With all that there is to do at your luxury hotel and all the rest that Palm Springs has in store for vacationers, this will be a trip that you'll never forget.
